About me
I was born in Derbyshire to Cypriot parents and studied art in Aberystwyth, the University of Wales. I now live and work in Southeast London.
My work is driven by my connection to the natural world; plants, flowers, creatures, birds, stones, and a lot of my subjects come from my own city garden and nature around me.
By using photography to immerse myself in a subject, I hope the viewer comes along with me both in fascination and joy in the colour, shapes and details that we often miss in our hectic lives. Through my imagery I hope to deepen the viewer’s own connection with nature.
By playing with the visual elements, with what can be seen or not, a greater feeling of connection to the subject is nurtured because that brings an element of unfamiliarity and novelty which in turn makes us see the old and familiar almost as if for the first time.
And in the play of what is seen or not and in the elements of the natural subject; beauty, vulnerability, strength and imperfection; I often see echos of our own human nature, in how we reveal or conceal parts of ourselves to one another and even to our own selves and how that keeps us connected or isolated or some complicated place in between.
